Our first "official" food review.....We had a filling dinner for 2 tonight at a restaurant we've never visited before. The restaurant is located in a row of 3 brightly- lit restaurants, within Queens Park. We had a giggle when we read the restaurant name....Fock Kee Seafood Restaurant. Next to it was a steamboat restaurant boasting seafood from Pulau Ketam.
The restaurant has a pictorial menu, unfortunately not all dishes have English translations to their names. As we could not read Mandarin, we chose our dishes according to the pictures and the waitress' accompanying explanation. We mostly went with the "chiu pai" (house speciality) dishes. As its name suggests, this place sells crabs, prawns and the likes, but since we were not in the mood to spend time mucking through shells and bones, we ordered its other fuss-free specialities.
First up, we ordered the deep-fried boneless honey chicken. Succulent pieces of chicken coated in sticky sweet sauce with a hint of crunchiness to the skin and edges. Deboned drumstick meat was used for each piece, making each piece tender and juicy to the bite. Too bad there were only 6 pieces in total, we could have gone on all night with this dish...at RM10, it was really reasonably priced.

We also ordered the restaurant's own-made seafood tofu with gravy. Despite its name, there was no seafood accompanying this dish, but the tofu had a rich eggy taste with a hint of seafood blended into it. This dish got a thumbs up from both of us as well. RM9 for a portion for 2.

Our third dish was a pretty simple loh hon chai (mixed vegetable) dish with pieces of beancurd skin. This tasted well...pretty normal, hence got somewhat sidelined by the other 2 dishes (which we were, admittedly, concentrating on). Also RM9 for a portion for 2.

Fock Kee (giggle) provides a free bowl of soup to all its diners. Tonight, it was old cucumber soup in chicken stock to accompany our meal.

Our total bill came up to RM31, which was pretty decent for a "tai chow" type of meal.

This restaurant is located along Jalan Peel, at the Queen's Park Retail Centre which is next to a Carrefour hypermarket. Jalan Peel, for those who are unfamiliar, is adjacent to the Jalan Pasar, Pudu area. If you choose to park within the Queen's Park compound, the parking fee is RM1, flat rate.

5-bam = exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey
We would give this restaurant a 3-bam rating.
Pucuk paku belacan style....very tender young shoots were used, lovely! RM10 for a small serving.
Noodles in garlic and crab.......this dish tastes exactly like sharks' fin soup, sans sharks' fin and with thin egg noodles swimming in crab meat. Eaten with a dash of vinegar, the soup was not too starchy, it was pretty darn good, actually! RM16 for a serving for 2.
