Restoran Wong Ah Wah, Jalan Alor, Kuala Lumpur

What a feast we had here at Restoran Wong Ah Wah, famous for its BBQ chicken wings.

The roast pork noodles (RM13.00) came with lots of lovely bits of siew yoke. The noodles resembled that of wantan mee, and tasted of lard. Very indulgent dish, this.
The fried rice (RM10.00) was mundane after having experienced the roast pork noodles.

I loved the salted egg squid (RM18.00) which was wet and rich with salted-egg paste. Sublime stuff!
Everyone gave the sweet and sour pork (RM15.00) the thumbs-up as well. The earmark of a good sweet and sour pork is that the deep fried meat mustn't be soggy when drenched with the tangy gravy. This one lived up to that criteria.

Mustn't forget our greens, crunchy stir fried kailan (RM10.00) this time.

And of course the piece de resistance, BBQ chicken wings Wong Ah Wah style (RM12.60). Smoky, sweet, salty, finger-licking goodness.

The total bill for the 5 of us totalled RM89.30, inclusive of drinks. A bit on the pricey side, but very satisfying indeed!

Dragon-i Restaurant, Pavilion Mall, Kuala Lumpur (2nd Post)

I am late blogging this.

Hubby got me a lovely bouquet of my favourite flowers on Valentine's. And we went to lunch at Dragon-i, before catching Benjamin Button (the movie, that is) at the Pavilion Mall.
This would be my second post on Dragon-i. The first post can be found here.
Ever since we tried Szechuan peppercorn chicken for the first time at Jiu Jiu, we've been craving it, unfortunately Jiu Jiu is way up north in the Penang state. Here at Dragon-i, there's a similar dish called sauteed diced chicken with dried chillies (RM20.00). It is basically a deep-fried boneless chicken dish, sitting in a basket of spicy, deep-fried dried chillies. Very piquant, but we still prefer the one we ate at Jiu Jiu, as it had a stronger taste of Szechuan peppercorn.

Fried hand-sliced la mian with sliced beef (RM16.00) had a very chewy springy texture, which I rather liked. The beef was tender and the dish was very peppery.

Steamed rice with minced pork and fried foo yung egg (RM15.00) tasted better the first time around. This round I found it to be a tad too porky for my liking. So hubby finished it.

Restoran Tangkak Beef Noodles, Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur

Hubby made a quick pit stop at this restaurant after a recent trip to the Berjaya Times Square Mall in KL.

He ordered the house specialty of course, beef koey teow noodle soup (RM7.90). I had a taste, and the soup was rather peppery and the meat, tender.

Soo Kee Restaurant, Medan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur

For beef kuey teow lovers, this place is famous as THE "ngau yoke hor fan" place in Jalan Imbi.

Even Curtis Stone (Yes, I want to take him home to be my chef!) has been here, by the looks of a photo on the wall. That's the lady boss beside him.

Pork satay. This was a hit with bro-in-law's girlfriend.

Me, I was more inclined toward the paper chicken, which cost RM4.50/piece. Marinated chicken pieces wrapped in tracing paper and deep fried, this dish brought back many fond childhood memories.

Unwrapped....the chicken tasted strongly of soy sauce and sesame oil. Almost teriyaki-ish. Loved it!
Nam Yue pork ribs, at RM3.00/piece. Exquisite, this was all salty and tasty, with really crispy edges.
This was my favourite dish. The beef fried rice was excellent, fragrant with sesame oil, eggs and bits of beef that were absolutely tender.

And of course, the beef koey teow done in "wat tan hor" style. It was good, but not as good as the fried rice.

The bill for 6 came up to RM101.00 which is considered quite pricey, for hawker-style dishes. That's probably cause it's located in the tourist belt of Bukit Bintang.

Meng Kee Char Siew, Tengkat Tong Shin, Kuala Lumpur

This is hubby's favourite char siew shop, which he argues, is the best in the Klang Valley.

Meng Kee....the name even sounds like our cat Mankie. Lol!
It's closed on Sundays, so Saturday is the only day we can come to savour this delectable char siew. And they are sold out early too, so better to come during the start of lunch time.
They sell loads of sticky, sweet, charred bbq pork strips and pak cham kai chicken. Since I don't eat pak cham kai (I call it sweaty chicken), it's only char siew for me!
One plate of charsiew. We can't remember exactly how much this cost, but it was definitely over RM10.00. The sides were gooey, caramelized and wonderfully charred......ooooo I love those bits. The meat was lean without being dry. Hubby was loving the juicy tender parts while I chose the burnt goodness. Yummmmm!

It HAS to be 4-bams!

Thye Hong @ Pavilion Mall's Food Republic, Kuala Lumpur

It was just mom-in-law, hubby (to-be) and me wandering around the newly opened The Pavilion mall in KL, when we went to the lower ground floor and stumbled upon a food heaven. They call it the Food Republic (fancy name for a food court that looked equally fancy). Boy oh boy, we were spoilt for choice.
We walked almost the entire floor and finally saw an outlet that really piqued our interest. There were long queues in front of Thye Hong (always a good sign!).

Upon closer examination, we saw this man in a glass "cubicle" adjacent to the main counter, busy frying eggs and huge, luscious-looking oysters! How could we resist?!

After queueing for a bit, we got our plate of o'chien (fried oysters with eggs). This one's a little different from the Penang version, as the eggs and oysters were fried separately; the oysters were only topped onto the eggs (rather than being mixed IN the eggs). But they sure served jumbo-sized oysters at RM7.00/plate.

The fried kuey teow (RM6.50) was nothing to shout about, though. Plain and without prawns, we've tasted better!

A better deal would be the fried kueh kak (carrot cake) at RM6.50. The carrot cake was fried with slightly-burnt edges, and the tastyness of the soya sauce and other ingredients penetrated into the carrot cake itself. It came served with a big helping of eggs.
Do also check out Masak-Masak's post on the Food Republic at The Pavilion.
