Pasar Borong Selangor @ Sri Kembangan

It was Friday night, and instead of clubbing in some cool joint, we were happily driving to a new discovery......Pasar Borong Selangor which opens at night. Yeah, mucking around in a wholesale wet market on a Friday night was our idea of fun!

It has a spacious set-up, with 3 sections in the main hall; vegetables, seafood and chicken/meat. Besides this main hall, there are also other stalls on the perimeter grounds of this market which sells dried goods and fruits. No non-halal section, though.

Operating hours:

Mon-Fri: 6.00pm-Midnight, 4.00am-11.00am.

Sat-Sun, Public Holidays: 6.00pm-1.00am, 4.00am-Noon

The vegetable section. Being a Tesco faithful, I compared prices between vegetables in Tesco and in this market and found Tesco to be generally cheaper.

Every stall was selling chicken at RM6.00/kg the night we were there. Tesco is still cheaper for poultry.

The seafood section was teeming with fish, all the common ones and some not-so-common ones too!

Gorgeous parrot fish.

Ugly lion fish. In Chinese, it's known as the "chicken feather fish". The ugly fish has no scales. We bought a bunch, at RM5.00/kg. The meat was really tender, in fact, too tender for my liking. I prefer more texture on my fish. Taste-wise, it's somewhat like catfish. The seafood is reasonably priced, we bought tiger prawns at RM18.00/kg, huge (and I mean Huge) squids at RM8.00/kg, and belanak at RM4.50/kg. I would say, with regard to seafood, this place beats Tesco's prices.

Pasar Borong Selangor is deep inside Sri Kembangan, diagonally across the road from Taman Equine's Jaya Jusco Supermarket. Parking costs RM1.00/entry.
