Pantai Seafood Restaurant, Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara, Petaling Jaya

We finally went to check out this restaurant after reading about it so long ago. Being the smart alecks that we were, we ordered all the recommended specialties (none from the aquarium tanks) that we've read from the many blogs already written about this place. Result : an overload of fried stuff!

We had the kai lan in two styles (RM12.00). The kai lan stems were blanched while the leaves were shredded and deep fried with tiny ikan bilis. Oily dish.

We also ordered the deep fried salted-egg mantis prawns (RM12.00), because I love anything cooked with salted eggs. Loved it!
Deep fried otak beancurd (RM8.80). The "otak-otak" within the tofu was not strong enough in its taste, rendering this dish somewhat lacking in taste.
Crispy pork trotters (RM35.00) was a dry dish which came with lots of gelatinous pork bits. The crispy parts were crunchy good, albeit a tad dry.

The only dish that was not deep fried. Clams in superior stock (RM16.00). The clams (kepah) cost RM20/kg which was pretty steep, considering the weight was attributed more to the shells than to the clam meat. Nonetheless, the stock was very good and we drank every drop.

The total bill for the 5 of us came up to RM109.95, inclusive of 5% government tax and 3% service charge.

All that fried stuff resulted in a rating of 3-bam. We needed ENO.
